SCHS alumni Brent Miller played his high
school football under then head coach Marcus Holley. During Brent's senior year with the Indians, he was named team
captain, most valuable lineman and most valuable player at SCHS, as well as being named to the All Area Lineman by the
Albany Herald. This was merely a glimpse of the successes to follow for Brent.
After receiving a scholarship to attend Western Montana
College, Brent continued to accumulate the accolades by lettering 4 years in not only football, but in the sport of wrestling
as well. In 1980 and 1981, he was selected to the All Frontier Conference Team as an offensive guard and team captain
in 1981. He was also captain of the wrestling team in 1981-82.
After graduating with his bachelors degree with a double
major in Health and Physical Education/History, the coaching career began. Early off he stayed relatively close to home
beginning at Hutto Middle School in Bainbridge as their football, basketball, and track coach from 1983-84. From there
he moved just up the road to Colquitt and spent 3 successful years as an assistant football coach and track coach.
The Pirate's record during his tenure was 28-5-1.
The opportunity to become a head coach came in 1987 when
Brent was named the top dog of Glennville High School in Glennville, GA. After gaining his first two years experience
as head coach, he moved on to Claxton High School for 3 years accumulating a 22-10 record with the Tigers. The Tigers
were ranked in the top ten all three years of his term.
Next stop was in Nashville...........Georgia that is.
Taking the reins of the Berrien Rebels, his first team of 1991 went from 'worst to first' and became the school's first ever
region champions. The Rebels of '91 also made it to the state quarterfinals defeating his high school alma mater along
the way. Brent was selected as Coach of the Year by the Tifton Gazette as well as the GACA (Association of Georgia High
School Coaches) for Region 2-AA. In 1995, he moved to Tatnall County and was the first head coach to take them to the
playoffs in two consecutive years amassing a 20-13 record in his three years in Reidsville before returning to Nashville for
his second stint with the Rebels where Coach Miller is still Berrien's most successful football coach in their history.
Along the way, Brent obtained his masters degree in Educationl Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1998.
In 2001, Brent came back to where he started and took
an assistant coach position with the Bainbridge Bearcat football team. In 2004 another high school looked to Coach Miller
to build their football program into a successful one. This time it was off to Atlanta to coach at Chamblee. While
bringing Chamblee their winningest season in 23 years, Brent led the 2005 team to the second round of the state playoffs serving
up Chamblee's first playoff win in 23 years. He was also chosen as the Coach of the Year by the Dekalb County Football
Coaches Association (includes 21 schools). In 2007, Coach Miller moved to his current position in Elberton as head football
coach of the Elbert County High Blue Devils. They play their home games in the Granite Bowl, which is quite a unique
stadium. We wish Coach Miller all the success in the world with his Blue Devil team and will keep you updated with any
additions.
